A business development resume example better than most other examples out there. How to write a business development resume that really sparkles. How to craft an executive summary that’s powerful.

Let me tell you about myself and how I crafted some of my business development resume examples. I grew up in New Jersey. So I spent several years in the small city of West Orange. Throughout those years I ran my own business, grew sales, helped set-up local businesses, got married and had children. I never missed a beat and never had a moment of self-doubt.

That was then and this is now. Today I lead a technology company with global ambitions and dozens of global clients. I am the Chief Technology Officer. During my 23 year career in business development, I gained a lot of knowledge about how to write a business development resume, and share that knowledge with this audience. If you are in business development jobs or looking for one, this is a must read.

When writing your resume, keep in mind these tips. You want to highlight your unique selling points – what sets you apart from all other job seekers. One of the things I suggest you do is customize your resume format to your specific company. For example, I wrote an executive summary that included the four distinct categories I identified with many of my clients. The result of that is a resume format that really sells (in my opinion).

For example, the business development executive I helped create two years ago had strong leadership skills, technical experience, and good interpersonal skills. I wanted his resumes to sell in his situation. Therefore, we used a customized version of the four key categories I identified. His resumes were then tailor-made to include his core ability sets, which fit in well with the corporate vision he represented. In his case, he chose to use an executive summary, which highlighted his strengths, rather than his shortcomings.

If you are writing your own business development resume, consider using a modified version of the four categories I shared with you above. Instead of focusing on your unique selling points in the position you are applying for, list your career accomplishments. Also, instead of simply listing your technical skills and education section, emphasize your interpersonal skills, your leadership skills, and your special abilities (which will be valuable in the position you are applying for). Finally, instead of simply listing your employment history, highlight each of the skills and accomplishments that are relevant to the job.

Next, take a look at the business development resume examples that you have found online. What do they have that you don’t? Many of these examples are very generic. They list education and work experience, but nothing about personal attributes or traits that are important to you. If you are a business development director, for example, you might consider using a resume examples such as the one I prepared for the CEO of a technology company who was recently hired to develop a new business initiative.

As you can see, by taking a little time to customize your own business development resume, you can put yourself in the best possible position for getting interviews and leads in the future. When you meet people, ask them how their career goals match up with your own. By doing so, you will demonstrate not only your knowledge of relevant career fields and industry standards, but also your ability to adapt to changing environments. Remember: always be on the lookout for business development resume samples and tailored entry-level resume examples. You will find that this will put you ahead of the pack in terms of getting interviews and job offers.
